From the desk of Beth Mulry, Clerk of the Brown Circuit Court Dated: December 23, 2010 The voters of Brown County can have confidence that this year’s election was well managed by the County Election Board and that precinct election officials were well trained. All trainees were provided with written and verbal instruction, including the Election Day Handbook prepared by the Indiana Election Division. Additionally, my personal cell phone number was given to trainees so they could contact me directly with any questions or to address any problems or confusion. When working through elections, all officials must pay attention to detail and work to the best of their abilities. Although everyone working on Election Day wanted perfection, we are human, and mistakes did occur. However, those mistakes did not in any way affect the ultimate outcome of any race. The election officials working the polls on Election Day and behind the scenes commit large amounts of time and energy as a service to this community. They should be commended for providing that service, not exposed to public ridicule for errors. I thank them for their work. It is unfortunate that we have had to endure the recount and contest process, but the resulting investigation has confirmed the reliability of the results of the 2010 General Election. I have conducted a thorough review of the election materials from Washington 4. There is no doubt as to who won any race in that precinct. And, there is no legitimate reason for any citizen of Brown County to doubt the integrity of the results or of any person, Democrat or Republican, who worked on Election Day. I will continue to provide the people of Brown County with the highest possible level of service, integrity, and commitment during my second term as Clerk. And, I am confident our new Sheriff, Rick Followell, will do the same. |
