Brown County Council
Mike Thompson has lived in or been associated with Brown County since 1970. He is married to Peggy (Bond) Thompson who is a teacher at Nashville Elementary. Peggy’s father Jack, grandfather Earl and great grandfather Joshua were funeral directors and businessmen in Brown County for over 100 years. They also served many terms as county coroners. Mike and Peggy have four children: Michael (Tigger), Greg, Becky, and Brayton. All grew up in Brown County and attended Brown County Schools. They also have four grandchildren and one on the way. Mike is a graduate of Franklin College and has been a professional educator for 33 years. He served 12 years in the Brown County Schools as teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal (BCHS), principal (Van Buren Elementary), and assistant superintendent. In addition, Mike served 9 years as the Superintendent of the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson United School Corporation (Indian Creek). Mike served two terms on the Van Buren Township Advisory Board and also acted as president of that Board. He served as a delegate many times to the Democratic State Convention. In 1998, Mike was given the "Outstanding Hoosier" award by then Governor Frank O’Bannon, for his outstanding professional work in the state of Indiana. One of Mike’s greatest interests is the Brown County 4-H Fair. He currently serves on the Fair’s Board of Directors. Mike is a member of the Nashville Christian Church as well as the Brown County Historical Society. He and Peggy currently reside in Nashville, but for 21 years, they owned and operated Poplar Ridge Farm in Van Buren Township, where they raised, trained, and raced Standardbred horses. Mike currently does work for Franklin College as a Lecturer in Education and Field Supervisor. Also, you might see him occasionally substitute teaching in the Brown County Schools. |
